Fees and Rebates

We have a strong commitment to providing psychological services to the community, and as such, have a low cost counselling service in addition to our general counselling service.

Our fees reflect our levels of qualification, experience, and abilities to work with a range of clients and issues. They also reflect our strong commitment to ongoing professional development to ensure we are providing the best service for you.

Session Fees

Our session fees vary depending on whether you come during or after business hours, and who you see in our practice.

Our fees are substantially lower than the Australian Psychological Society's recommended fee of $267 per session, reflecting our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable services for the community.

Please contact us to find out more.

If you obtain rebates through Medicare or private health, as discussed below, this will typically cover a significant part of the cost of each session.

As we do not bulk-bill, we offer a limited number of low cost counselling spaces, staffed by a provisional psychologist. Fees for this low cost service are significantly lower than our standard fees. Please contact us to discuss this further.

Medicare Rebates

Adults, adolescents and children assessed by a GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist as having mental health issues are eligible to receive Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions with a Psychologist or Mental Health Social Worker each calendar year.

If you have a referral to see us as part of a Mental Health Care Plan, you will receive a Medicare rebate of $81.90 for a Mental Health Social Worker, $92.90 for a psychologist with general registration, or $136.35 for a clinical psychologist.

Please note that couple and family therapy are not approved treatments under Medicare.

How do I obtain a Medicare rebate?

  1. Make an extended appointment with your GP, and ask for a Mental Health Care Plan. During this appointment, speak with your GP about why you would like to consult a psychologist.

  2. Your GP will assess you and your current difficulties, determining whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan. If you are eligible, they will create the Mental Health Care Plan and provide you with a referral letter to the clinician of your choice. Please note that the letter does not have to to state the name of your preferred clinician.

  3. Bring your referral letter to the first session, as this is required for you to obtain rebates.

We have HICAPS, meaning Medicare rebates can be instantly processed back into the account of your choice. If you consent to providing us with your Medicare details at the time of your first session, our practice management software means we can process these rebates without requiring your Medicare card to be presented at each session.

Private Health Rebates

If you have private health insurance that covers sessions with a psychologist, you may be entitled to certain rebates. Your health fund will be able to provide you with further information about this. We are registered with most major health funds. As we have HICAPS, you will only need to pay the gap between the full fee and your health fund rebate. Please bring your health insurance card to the session if you wish to claim private health rebates.

Payment

Payment is required at the time of your session. We accept cash, cheque, EFTPOS, and credit card.

Cancellation Policy

We require 48 hours' notice for missed appointments, otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged.
